The exchange of properties which constitute matter and consciousness has been considered to be alchemy. The  interrelation of thought and substance is no longer a mystery. The basic components of this alchemy are now understood. The electron turns out to be not a lifeless small ball, but a cloud which changes together with the environment. It is like a bioplast!  Everything consisting of electrons is "alive" in some sense. The clue to the alchemic mystery lies in the structure of the electron.
